I’m Dr. Samantha Torres

I started my mental health career nearly thirty years ago when I started working for the National Health Service (NHS) in the United Kingdom. I was seconded by the NHS to do my undergraduate degree in Mental Health Nursing and was awarded a Bachelor of Science with First Class Honours. My clinical practice over the years have developed working within inpatient, the community and specialist clinical settings.

I left the NHS as I had the opportunity to live and work in Singapore in South East Asia. I commenced a Lecturer appointment at Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. After four years, I returned to the United Kingdom after receiving a fully funded full-time scholarship to undertake a PhD at the University of Hull in Yorkshire.

I was awarded a PhD in Health Studies and a Postgraduate Certificate in Research Training. My thesis is titled: Making sense of it all: an interpretative phenomenological analysis of bereaved survivors’ coping experiences following intimate partner suicide.

I returned to clinical practice for the NHS to train as a CBT Psychotherapist and was awarded with Commendation a Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
